10-WEEK WRITING COURSE
From an idea to a project
Who are the workshops for?
This 10-week course –with a one-week break– will follow the course Is Writing for Me?, however, it is not a requirement. You will enjoy this course if you are a beginner or if you have little experience in writing.
The aim of this course is to become familiar with creative exercises and to develop a writing habit. The first part of every workshop will consist of exercises that will focus on one particular aspect of writing: point of view, narrator’s voice, character building, etc. In the second part of the workshop, we will work on the participants’ individual projects.
The goal of this course is to become aware of literary devices and take a writing project seriously. Participants will be encouraged to work on a piece and learn the importance of rewriting and editing.
Time and dates:
Wednesdays 4.20 – 5.50 p.m. (90 mins)
9, 16, 23, 30 October
6 November
There are no classes on the following week
20, 27 November
4, 11, 18 December
Venue: The Trinity Centre, Church Road, Meole Brace, Shrewsbury SY3 9HF (parking is available)
Please read our Cancellation Policy.

10-WEEK WRITING COURSE
A museum of meMories
Part 1. Image, Imagery and Writing and Part 2. Memory and Writing
A Museum of Memories is a 10-week writing course that can be booked in two 5-week parts. The general framework for the course will be the museum, a space where different art forms are found and a journey through memories can take place.
The first five workshops will look at how images can inspire and help writing, how imagery works in writing, and what the organic connection between the fine arts and the art of writing is.
Participants will do writing exercises based on images provided in the classroom. Previous knowledge of art history is optional, and I am not planning any drawing or painting together. However, images and pictures can be part of the work produced at home.
The second part of the course will follow the theme of the museum but focus on memories. We will look at how memory shapes our writing, how memories can be told, and how objects, images, and sensations can initiate the process of recollection.
There will be no need to use personal memories if participants don’t feel like it. The focus will be on the interaction and parallel characteristics between writing and remembering.
The first five-week course dates are 10, 17, 24, 31 October and 7 November. (Followed by one week off.)
The second five-week course dates are 21, 28 November and 5, 12, 19 December.
Time: 1 – 2.30 pm Thursday
Place: The Trinity Centre, Meole Brace, Church Road, SY3 9HF

10-WEEK WRITING COURSE
Take your writing seriously
This 10-week course—with a one-week break—is aimed at writers who have already developed a writing discipline. Participants will have to send in a 500-1000-word piece of writing every week. The workshop’s exercises will be based on the participants’ work. Participants will be encouraged to read all works and give constructive opinions based on specific criteria.
The course aims to produce a longer piece of work, up to 10.000 words. It can be several short pieces or one long one (a short story or part of a book). I suggest you start a new writing piece and not send in bits of an old one. The goal is to write and edit every week for ten weeks.
I will give 2 to 3 comments on each writing every week, whether you can attend or not. Based on the comments, I will devise exercises that will help each participant’s writing process.

FAQ
What shall I write?
You can start a new short story or a chapter of your book. But it doesn’t have to be one long work. You can send different writings each week.
I have no idea what to write about. Can you help?
Yes, send me an email or give me a ring!
Can the weekly writings be shorter than 500 words?
They can! But be aware that this is your chance to write a lot and be read by me and the group!
Can the weekly writings be longer than 1000 words?
No. It would increase my workload, and I won’t be able to give you proper feedback.
What if I miss a class?
You can still send me your writing, and I will give you feedback. I will ask the group to send you their opinion.
What does feedback mean?
I will give you 2 to 3 comments on the margin of your writing.
Will we talk about my writing in every workshop?
I will set up exercises based on the works I have. They will all be relevant to your work. Sometimes, we will focus more on one writing than the others, but it will be very balanced.
Can we work on problems I find while writing?
I would be delighted if you could suggest topics to discuss!

5-WEEK WRITING COURSE
IS WRITING FOR ME? – for beginners
Who are the workshops for?
The workshop is for everybody who wants to try writing and strengthen their creative muscles. You don’t need any previous writing experience.
What to expect?
Loads of writing exercises from 1 to 10 minutes to improve your creative thinking and build up your confidence. We will talk about writing discipline and how to become a writer. There will be exercises to share experiences and opinions about writing. I will lead you through how a feeling becomes an idea, a project, and a piece of writing. You won’t be asked to share any of your writing you don’t like. Creating a supportive and relaxed writing community is my main goal in my workshops.
I teach small groups, a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 people, so early booking is essential.
Time and dates:
The next course will probably be held in March 2025.

For every workshop, we will read a short story. We will look at how the different elements and literary devices (narrative structure, character building, description, dialogue, etc.) work, and we will do writing exercises inspired by the different narrative solutions.
