Who are the workshops for?
This five-week writing course will be inspired by the Brontë sisters’ work. We would read short stories, poetry, letters and diary entries. The writing exercises will be based on the Brontës’ work. I will give you a little booklet with all the readings at the beginning of the course. I will try to keep it simple, so you won’t have to read complete novels, only if you feel like it.
This course requires no previous knowledge of the sisters or their work. The image that inspires me more than anything else is a group of people sitting in a room and writing in the early 19th century, and a group of people sitting together and writing in the early 21st century. What are the similarities? What are the differences?
In the Brontë course, you won’t have to analyse poetry or tell me what the author wanted to say. My only question will be, what is the text telling you? Is it speaking to you or not?
So you won’t need any previous education for this.
